If you check the word childish out in any thesaurus you will find a common thread in the words that are presented as synonymous. Childish is usually understood to mean foolish, backward, and lacking in intelligence.
It is odd that a word that relates to childhood, perhaps the most important period in a person's life, should have such negative connotations.
